Condolence Message – Africa55Durable Initiative

RIP Nelly Chatue-Diop
It is with immense sadness and deep emotion that the entire team of Africa55Durable Initiative has learned of the sudden passing of Nelly Chatue-Diop on January 8, 2026.
A true visionary pioneer, Nelly left an indelible mark on the history of financial inclusion and technological innovation across Africa.
By co-founding Ejara, she paved the way for millions of Africans—especially the unbanked and the diaspora—to access cryptocurrencies, savings, and investment opportunities simply and with dignity through mobile money.
Her tireless advocacy for decentralized, accessible, and inclusive finance will remain a powerful benchmark for generations of entrepreneurs and innovators on the continent.
Nelly embodied technical excellence, entrepreneurial courage, and an unwavering determination to transform the economic realities of Francophone Africa.
Her legacy, now carried forward by Ejara, Makeda Asset Management, and all the communities she inspired, will continue to advance her dream long after her too-brief time among us.
To her family, loved ones, teams, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her, we extend our most heartfelt condolences.
May her soul rest in peace, and may her work continue to light the path toward a more sovereign, innovative, and inclusive Africa.
With all our affection and admiration,
On behalf of the entire team
